Periodismo de guerra llamó Sonia Osorio las agresiones desatadas contra los periodistas y medios, para impedir que el pueblo esté informado, primero por el fallecido dictador teniente coronel (R) Hugo Chávez Frías desde 1999 hasta 2012 y desde 2013, su sucesor Nicolás Maduro, pero con más crueldad.

Se trata de todos modos de una guerra asimétrica entre una dictadura apertrechada de fusiles, gases tóxicos, tanquetas, ballenas de agua, órganos de seguridad pública, Tribunal Supremo de Justicia, Fiscalía General de la República, Defensoría del Pueblo, milicianos y colectivos violentos y unos comunicadores sociales cuya única arma consiste en una grabadora, una cámara fotográfica o de video y máscaras anti gases.

Durante el año examinado, de enero a diciembre, según el informe hecho público por el Instituto Prensa y Sociedad Venezuela, citado el 8 de marzo de 2018 por el periodista Ronald Romero, del portal Noticiero Digital, con información de El Nacional, aumentaron las restricciones de la labor periodística y se incrementaron las violaciones de la libertad de expresión, con la ocurrencia de 518 casos para 1.087, resultado que a juicio de la organización “se inscribe en un contexto de conflictos socio políticos que a lo largo del año coartaron los derechos comunicacionales de los venezolanos”.
