Daniel Doroteo Santos Betancourt, su nombre de pila, nació en Santurce, Puerto Rico, el 5 de febrero de 1916 y falleció en Ocala, Florida, Estados Unidos, el 27 de noviembre de 1992. Ver más en: cicune.org
Cantante de bolero, plena, guaracha, rumba cubana, y guajira, músico y compositor.
Integró el coro de su escuela, fue conocido artísticamente como “El Jefe” y “El Inquieto Anacobero”.
Casualmente formó parte del “Trío Lírico”, pues se encontraba cantando mientras se bañaba en el cuarto que alquilaba y lo escuchó un miembro de esa agrupación quien lo invitó a integrarse al mismo. Este hecho fortuito le abrió el camino a la fama que logró años más tarde. También figuró en el Conjunto Yumurí.

El Bolero

El bolero, a lo largo de su más de un siglo de existencia, si se acepta como cierta la versión histórica que lo sitúa a finales del siglo XIX, no sólo aparece en los repertorios musicales de cantantes populares encargados de su difusión e innovación para que no desaparezca, y en el de los artistas especializados en otros géneros (jazz, rock, pop, salsa, son, etc.) sino también, aunque con menor intensidad, en el de intérpretes de la llamada música elitesca o académica.
